While the world teeters on the brink of destruction, Dietrich Bonhoeffer joins a deadly conspiracy to assassinate Hitler, risking his faith and destiny to save millions of Jews from genocide. Niemöller actor August Diehl previously played an SS Gestapo officer in Inglourious Basterds (2009) and a German citizen who resisted conscription in the German army in Secret Life (2019). Dietrich Bonhoeffer: We have no protection against stupidity. Neither protests nor force can touch this. Reasoning is useless. Facts that contradict personal prejudices can simply not be believed – moreover, a fool can oppose them by criticizing them, and if they are indisputable, then they can be simply dismissed as trivial exceptions.. Well shot and played. However, the film spends too much time on Bonhoeffer’s trip in 1930. in New York and his alleged fascination with gospel music and jazz. Indeed, his later prison letters show the lasting influence of traditional Lutheran hymns and the hymns of Paul Gerhardt on his theology and piety. Nothing is mentioned about his engagement to Maria von Wedemeyer (eighteen years younger than him), with whom he exchanged dozens of letters during his imprisonment (1943–1945), and then published them under the title “Love Letters from Cell 92”. No. 39; Maria’s grandmother financed the seminary of the Confessing Church in Finkenwald, where Bonhoeffer advocated a kind of “new monasticism”. for seminarians – with traditional hymns and a custom prayer of psalms. The plot, in which Maria meets the end of Bonhoeffer’s life, raises several interesting questions: for example, why get engaged if the world/yours is about to collapse? All in all, it is good that Bonhoeffer’s film was shot, which brings his story of struggle for truth to a wider audience.
